Service Opportunities

Year 1 students must complete at least 10 hours of service and Year 2 must complete at least 5 hours of service  at St. Michael’s.  To complete your Service Hour requirement, please choose from the following parish ministries or events.  As special events become available, Youth Ministry will email information to the families and candidates about the event and how to sign up.  If you have questions regarding an activity qualifying for hours, please contact the Youth Ministry Office.

Here are some opportunities to serve your parish community:

Donuts! Sunday Mornings in December and March

Youth Ministry has the opportunity to serve donuts to the parish after the Sunday Morning Masses for the months of December and March. Come out, represent Youth Ministry, and serve the people of God in this simple way.  Parent help is also needed and counts toward the teen’s service hours.  To sign up, look for a sign up email one month before and chose the dates you would like to help. Contact the Youth Ministry Office with additional questions. 

Altar Serving

Are you an Altar Server? Serving at Mass counts toward your Confirmation service hours; have a committee member approve your hours.

Usher and Lectors for Sunday Mass

Ushers are always needed to assist with all Masses, especially the 5:30 pm Sunday Youth Mass.  If you would like to sign up to be an usher, please contact Head Usher, Guy Caruso, 858-672-0234. To inquiry about becoming a lector, please contact the Parish Office, 858-487-4755.

St Michael’s Choirs

Singing and/or playing an instrument in one of St. Michael’s Choirs will count toward your service hours.  Please have the director of your choir approve your hours.


St. Michael’s HFC Servers

If you are a member of the HFC Servers, your hours count toward Confirmation hours. Please have the director approve your hours.

Religious Ed Volunteers

Tuesdays 3:30 to 5:30 pm or

 Wednesdays 3:30 to 5:30 pm or 5:30 to 7:30 pm

Sunday Pre-School Program

One Sunday morning a month

Youth are needed to assist catechists at the Sunday morning preschool program during the 9:00 a.m. Mass.  Your assistance will be required one Sunday morning a month.  Contact Prudence Hernandez at 858-485-1392 to volunteer.

Life Choices

Life Choices Pregnancy Center, which offers pro-life alternatives for women seeking abortions, has a youth service group that works on many activities.If you would like to participate, contact Life Choices at 858-486-1738.

St Michael’s Thrift Store-Poway Road

Help support the American Haitian Foundation by volunteering at our Thrift Store on Poway Road.  To volunteer, please contact Kelly at 858-486-6848.

Fall Festival


Join the fun and volunteer for our annual fall festival! Run a booth, work a food stand, or help in any other way to serve the parish! If you’re interested in volunteering go http://smpoway.org/fallfestival/ for more info and to sign.

Lost Boys Walk-a-thon

Early January

Support the Lost Boys of Sudan at our Annual Walk-a-thon that takes place at Saint Michaels in early January! We walk together to symbolize the walk the boys did for thousands of miles across Sudan for freedom. Crab Fest

Early February

Help raise money for the youth programs at Saint Michael’s by serving at the annual Crab Fest! Contact Chris Vaughn for more information, HERE.

Fish Fry Dinners during Lent

Help the Knights of Columbus with our Fish Fry Dinners during Lent.  They need help with set-up, serving, and clean-up.  To volunteer, watch for an email from Youth Ministry and a link to sign-up.

Cutting Palms for Palm Sunday

Youth Ministry helps the church prepare the palms that are distributed at Mass on Palm Sunday.  An email will go out requesting help with this project.
